Ask God: In our busy lives, we sometimes forget that we are spiritual being and made in the image of God. Let each of us pause for two minutes and connect with God on a spiritual level. Then listen. This connection to God will make all difference in your day. Praise God that He is always with us.

It is so true that we think in the physical--what we can see, touch, feel, taste, and hear--that we forget that our God who we cannot see is in us and is our cheerleader. We need to acknowledge Him and worship Him in Spirit and truth.

Real and Alive: Why the Spirit You Cannot See Is

More Real Than the World You Can

You Believe in God. But Do You Live Like He Is Real?

Here is a question worth sitting with for a minute. You believe in God. You believe the Bible is true. You believe heaven is real and hell is real and the Holy Spirit lives inside you. So why does your day-to-day life look so much like the life of someone who believes none of that?

You wake up. You worry about money the same way your unsaved neighbor does. You get a bad report from the doctor, and your stomach drops the same way it would for anyone else. You pray, but if you are honest, a part of you does not expect anything to actually happen. You know about the spiritual realm. You just do not live in it.

You are not alone. Many believers know the truth in their heads but never move it eighteen inches down into their hearts. They read that God is Spirit. They just never learned how to actually meet Him there.

We Were Taught to Trust What We Can Touch and See

From the day you were born, the world trained you to trust your five senses. If you can see it, touch it, or prove it in a lab, it is real. If you cannot, it is just an idea, here today and gone tomorrow. That training runs deep, even in Christians.

So when trouble comes, we reach first for what we can control. We call the doctor before we call on God. We check the bank account before we open the Word. This is not because we are bad Christians. It is because we were never taught how to walk in the Spirit as a daily habit, not just on Sundays.

And here is the deeper ache underneath it. When your spiritual life stays only in your head, you feel dry. You feel like you are going through the motions. You wonder, quietly, if God feels far away because something is wrong with you.

Nothing is wrong with you. You just have not been shown the way in. Over 1200 years ago, Hosea said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). He goes on to say that the reason was that they rejected knowledge.

God Is Spirit, and He Wants to Meet You There

Jesus said it plainly to the woman at the well: "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). This is not a poetic phrase. It is a plain fact about who God is and how He can be known.

You were not made only of flesh and bone. You have a spirit. Job said, "There is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding" (Job 32:8). Paul said the same thing to the Romans: "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God" (Romans 8:16). Do not reject these truths; sit for a few minutes and meditate on these truths.

This means something wonderful. God does not only speak to your mind. He speaks to your spirit. And when your spirit is alive to Him, born again by faith in Jesus, you have a direct line of communication with the Creator of the universe. Not a metaphor. A real, working connection.

Paul understood this so well that he told the Corinthians, "We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18). The spiritual realm is not the fuzzy, uncertain one. It is the solid one. It is the world you can see that is passing away.

Three Simple Steps Into a Spirit-Led Life

You do not need a seminary degree to walk in the Spirit. You need three simple, repeatable habits.

First: Settle it in your mind that the spiritual realm is real, not symbolic. Stop treating prayer like wishful thinking. When you pray, you are not sending a thought into empty space. You are speaking, spirit to Spirit, to a living Person who hears you. Hebrews 11:6 says, "but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Faith starts by believing God is actually there, actually listening. Faith in God comes by hearing the Word of God. Speak the Word of God out loud.

Second: Practice communicating through your spirit, not just your mind. This means slowing down before you pray. Instead of firing off a list of requests, take a moment to become aware of God's presence. Romans 8:26 says the Spirit Himself helps us when we do not even know what to pray. Some of the most powerful prayers are not eloquent speeches. They are simple, honest moments where you quiet your racing thoughts and let your spirit reach toward His.

Third: Acknowledge the good that is already in you, which is Christ. This is the step most believers skip, and it changes everything. Paul wrote to Philemon, "I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus" (Philemon 1:6).

Read that again slowly. Your faith becomes effective, meaning it actually produces results, when you acknowledge the good that is already inside you because Christ lives there. You are not trying to talk yourself into feeling holy. You are simply agreeing with what God already says is true: Christ in you, righteous, loved, equipped, and connected to the Father. When you stop arguing with that truth and start agreeing with it out loud, your faith stops being theory and starts being power.

We talk to God the same way we worship Him: In Spirit and in truth.

A Real-Life Picture

At different times in our lives, we are faced with challenges and trials. Visualize these events and relate them to a tragic event in your life. Think of a mother whose son was in a car accident. The doctor gives a grim report. Her body wants to panic, the way anyone's would. But instead of only spiraling in her mind, she goes to a quiet room and prays. But this time she prays differently; different than she ever had before. She does not just recite words. She quiets herself, acknowledges that the Spirit of God living in her is greater than the fear in the room, and she speaks faith over her son out loud, in agreement with God's Word.

She still calls the doctor. She still trusts in the medicine. But she no longer lives only in the physical realm, hoping God might show up. She acknowledges the spiritual realm of God, aware that God is already there. Her son recovered fully. Something happened: she moved from knowing about God to knowing God. Something shifted in her the moment she stopped only believing in the Spirit and started living from Him.

Stop Visiting the Spirit. Start Living From It.

You cannot stay where you are and grow at the same time. Today, before you close this article, do one thing. Sit quietly for two minutes. Do not ask God for anything yet. Just acknowledge that He is Spirit, that your spirit is alive to Him, and that Christ living in you is good, powerful, and real. Say it out loud if you can. Philemon 1:6 promises that this simple act of acknowledgment is what makes your faith effective.

The Result: Receiving Good Things by Faith

When you live aware of the spiritual realm instead of merely believing it exists somewhere out there, everything changes. Your prayers stop feeling like letters dropped into the void. Your peace stops depending on the news or the bank balance.

James 1:17 says every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights. Those gifts flow to us through faith, and faith grows strongest when it is rooted in the unseen, eternal, unshakable spiritual realm rather than the shifting physical one.

Paul said in Ephesians that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3). Notice he said “has blessed us” with every spiritual blessing, not that He is going to, but that GodHe has. God’s blessings are ours by faith. We receive when we believe.

You were never meant to just believe in the Spirit. You were meant to walk in Him, talk with Him, and receive from Him every single day. That door has been open the whole time. Today is a good day to walk through it.
