Grow in the Knowledge of God's Word

How to Become a Doer of the Word

Ask God: How do believers move from being only an observer to being a doer of the Word? It starts with right thinking about the Word, then believing God's Truth in your heart, and continually speaking the Word of God. By thinking, believing, and speaking God's Word, you will become a Doer of the Word.

Good Evening Reader,

In the following weeks we will be studying the Book of Matthew. We look at the turning point for the disciples when Jesus called them to "follow me." Many of us have had a moment in our lives where we moved from being a spectator to being a participate.

For these moments we praise and give all Glory to God.

From Thinking to Believing to Speaking to a Doer

From Spectator to a Doer

Every believer reaches a moment when faith becomes personal. It is the moment we realize Christianity is more than attending church, more than listening to sermons, and more than agreeing with the Truth. It is a call to action.

Many people love God sincerely, yet quietly wonder why their spiritual life feels stalled — why prayers seem distant, why purpose feels unclear, and why the excitement they once felt has faded.

Often, the answer is not that God has moved away, but that He is inviting us to move closer.

Throughout Scripture, God never called people to sit and watch. He called ordinary men and women to step forward, trust Him, and participate in His work. Fishermen left their nets. Tax collectors left their tables. Broken people became messengers of hope. None of them felt fully prepared, yet their willingness opened the door for God to do extraordinary things through ordinary lives.

Today, the same invitation still stands. Many believers stand on the sidelines, cheering for what God is doing but unsure how to step into it themselves. Yet deep inside, there is a longing to matter, to grow, and to see God work personally through their lives.

This lesson is an invitation to move from observer to participant — from thinking and talking about faith to living it daily. As you read, you may discover that God has been calling you all along, not just to believe in His work, but to become part of it.

The Call of Jesus — Leaving the Sidelines and Following Him

When Jesus Christ walked along the Sea of Galilee, He did something unexpected. He did not go to religious leaders or scholars. He stopped beside ordinary workers. Fishermen were casting their nets, focused on another normal day, when Jesus said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). In that moment, their lives changed forever.

Notice what happened next. Scripture says they "immediately left their nets" (Matthew 4:20). They did not wait until they felt prepared. They did not ask for more training or better timing. They simply responded. Peter and the others moved from spectators to participants in God's work.

Many believers today stand where those fishermen once stood. They believe in Christ, attend church, and admire what God is doing—but remain on the sidelines. Yet Jesus never called anyone to watch from a distance. He calls us to step into His purpose. God's game is not reserved for the perfect; it is open to the willing.

Joining God's work begins with a simple yes. It may look like encouraging someone who is discouraged, serving where there is a need, praying faithfully for others, or sharing hope with a hurting friend. Small acts of obedience become powerful tools in God's hands.

James 1:22 reminds us, "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only." Faith grows when we act on what God says. As we step forward, confidence replaces fear, and purpose replaces hesitation.

You do not have to know everything to begin. You only need to follow. When you move from watching to doing, you discover something beautiful—God works through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

Aligning the Heart — Thinking, Believing, and Speaking God's Word

Following Christ begins in the heart before it is ever seen in our actions. A person first thinks about God's truth, then begins to believe it. This is where real transformation starts. Scripture teaches, "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7). What fills our thoughts eventually shapes our direction in life.

When Jesus Christ called His disciples, they had to believe His words before they could understand His mission. They did not see the full picture, but they trusted the One who called them.

Faith always begins this way. Romans 10:17 reminds us, "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." The more we fill our minds with God's Word, the stronger our belief becomes.

Many believers struggle because they stop at just thinking about Scripture. They know what God says, yet doubt quietly speaks louder than faith. But belief grows when we meditate on God's promises daily. When a person facing fear repeats God's Word—"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1)—their heart begins to change. Thoughts shaped by Scripture produce confidence.

Speaking God's Word is the next step. Joshua 1:8 says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth… for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous." God gave these words to Joshua when he was going into battle against the Canaanites. And it worked for Joshua.

When we speak what God says instead of what fear says, faith moves from theory to reality. Our words reinforce what we believe. Speaking God's Word works whether we are going into battle against the devil or if unexpected challenges appear in our lives.

In everyday life, this may look simple—speaking peace instead of worry, hope instead of defeat, or forgiveness instead of anger—and it is when we rely on God to guide us. Thinking God's truth, believing it deeply, and speaking it consistently aligns our hearts with His will. Our hearts align first, followed by the outward manifestations of God's promises.

When our thoughts and words agree with God, we are no longer spectators. We are preparing ourselves to walk boldly into His purpose. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Becoming a Doer — Joining God's Game and Changing Lives

Faith reaches its fullest expression when belief turns into action. The Christian life was never meant to be watched from the sidelines. Scripture tells us plainly, "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22). God did not save us simply to observe His work — He invites us to join Him in it.

When Jesus Christ walked along the Sea of Galilee, He did not ask His disciples to study fishing methods or debate theology first. He said, "Follow me" (Matthew 4:19). Their lives changed the moment they stepped forward in obedience. They were ordinary people, but their willingness made room for God's power to work through them.

Many believers today love God sincerely but remain spectators. They think, Someone else will serve. Someone else will speak. Someone else will help. Yet God often works through simple acts of obedience. A phone call to encourage someone, praying with a hurting friend, volunteering in ministry, or sharing your testimony may seem small, but God uses these moments to change lives.

Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father" (Matthew 5:16). Light only fulfills its purpose when it shines. In the same way, faith grows stronger when it is lived out daily.

Consider a believer who begins serving others despite fear. At first, confidence feels small. But as they step out, they see God open doors, touch hearts, and answer prayers. Action strengthens faith, and when you use the faith you have, it grows.

God's game is already in motion. The question is not whether God is working — it is whether we will join Him. When we move from watching to doing, your life and your faith blossom.

How To Know God's Will for Your Life

Our objective should always be to know God’s will for our lives as well as for each day. The answer to finding God’s will is in prayer and God’s Word. James said, “We have not because we ask not.” Seek God in prayer for His will for you. He answers!

Reader,

Hosea said his people were destroyed for lack of knowledge. Knowledge give believers and non-believers a choice. When a person does not know, they cannot choose.
