Is There Anything Too Hard for God?

Ask God: Throughout the Bible God performed many awesome wonders. One of the most dramatic is Abraham and Sarah having a baby in their old age. He is 100 and she is 90 years old. This was God's promise to them and God always keeps His promises.

Good Evening Reader,

God is not only awesome but good. He loves you and extends His hand to His children.

May God bless you and keep you in His love.

All Glory to God.

Abraham and His Visitors

God’s Promises Overcome Human Doubts

“Nothing is Too Hard for God”

Text: Genesis 18:1–15

Introduction

Abraham had been walking with God for many years. He had left his homeland, trusted God’s leading, and received covenant promises of land and descendants. Yet as the years passed, those promises seemed slow in coming, especially the promise of a son through Sarah.

In Genesis 18, Abraham experiences a unique and intimate encounter: the Lord Himself appears to him in the form of three visitors. This encounter is not just another moment in Abraham’s life—it is a divine appointment. In this meeting, God reaffirms His presence, renews His promise, and demonstrates His power to accomplish what seems humanly impossible.

Abraham and Sarah were old, far beyond childbearing years, but God’s word remained sure. The key truth from this passage is timeless: God is faithful to His promises, even when circumstances appear hopeless. His word never fails, and His power knows no limits.

God’s Presence in Ordinary Moments (verses 1–5)

Abraham was sitting at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day when he suddenly noticed three men standing nearby. Without hesitation, he hurried to meet them, bowed low, and offered hospitality—water to wash, shade to rest, and food to refresh them.

What seemed like a simple act of kindness became a sacred encounter with the Lord Himself. Abraham didn’t initially realize that this was a divine visitation. Still, intuitively, he knew these men were not ordinary travelers. He immediately treated them with respect and humbly welcomed them.

This moment teaches us that God often meets us in ordinary circumstances. The simple routines of life, when offered with a willing and generous heart, can become divine opportunities.

Hebrews 13:2 reminds us, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Abraham’s eagerness challenges us to keep our hearts open and our homes welcoming, for God may turn the ordinary into extraordinary at any moment.

God’s Promise of Life (verses 6–10)

After Abraham and Sarah prepared food for their guests, one of the visitors spoke words that must have startled them: “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah, your wife, shall have a son.”

Sarah had lived with barrenness all her life; now she was far past childbearing age. Humanly speaking, it was impossible. Yet God’s promise was clear—He would bring life where there had been none.

This shows us the creative power of God’s Word. Just as He spoke the universe into existence, He now spoke fruitfulness into Sarah’s barren womb. Paul reminds us in Romans 4: 17 that Abraham believed in “the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

God’s promises are not bound by age, limitation, or circumstance. Where we see emptiness, He sees fullness. Where we see impossibility, He speaks possibility. His timing may test our patience, but His promises never fail to come to pass.

Human Doubt and God’s Assurance (verses 11–15)

When Sarah overheard the promise of a son, her natural reaction was to laugh. The thought of bearing a child at her age seemed absurd. Her laughter was not one of joy but of doubt. Yet God heard it and gently responded with a piercing question: “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” With those words, He confronted her unbelief and reminded her of His limitless power.

Sarah’s reaction mirrors our own struggles. We may not laugh out loud, but inwardly we often doubt God’s promises when they seem beyond our reach. We wonder if He will ever answer that prayer, restore that relationship, or open that closed door. But God’s question still echoes today: “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” (verse 14).

Luke 1:37 confirms, “For no word from God will ever fail.” Our doubts do not cancel God’s power. He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.

Lessons We Can Learn

Genesis 18 offers timeless lessons for our walk with God. First, Abraham shows us the value of hospitality. A simple act of kindness became the setting for a divine encounter, reminding us to be ready to serve others with joy (Romans 12:13).

Second, God’s promise teaches us to trust His Word, even when circumstances appear impossible. His faithfulness is not dependent on our strength but on His sovereign power (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Third, Sarah’s laughter reminds us that doubt is part of the human experience, but God meets us in our weakness and calls us deeper into faith. Like the man in Mark 9:24, we can pray, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” Finally, the Lord’s question—“Is anything too hard for the LORD?”—invites us to place every impossible situation in His hands, believing He is able to do what we cannot.

Conclusion: God is Faithful

The encounter at Abraham’s tent closes with a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness. Abraham and Sarah’s story is not just about the birth of Isaac but about the God who keeps His promises.

Though Abraham and Sarah doubted, God fulfilled His word in His perfect timing. We learn that God’s presence may appear in unexpected moments, His promises stand firm despite impossibility, and His power is never limited by human weakness.

For us today, the message is clear: trust Him fully, even when His promises seem delayed or unbelievable. What He has spoken, He will accomplish. As Paul later declared, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). With God, hopelessness is never the end—His faithfulness always prevails.

A Prayer for Today and the Days Ahead

“Lord God, we thank You for reminding us today that nothing is too hard for You. Just as You kept Your promise to Abraham and Sarah, You will keep every promise You have made to us.

Forgive us when we laugh in doubt or lose hope, and strengthen our faith to believe even when things look impossible. Help us to welcome others with love, to trust Your Word, and to remember that Your timing is always perfect.

May we remember this day and the days to come that You are faithful, powerful, and good. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
