Stand Firm Against False Witnesses of the Word: Contend for the Faith

Ask God: We are commanded to contend for the faith. In other words, we should stand firm for our faith when false witnesses come against the Word. Your position will give glory to God.

Good Evening Reader,

This lesson is powerful. My faith in God has served me well this week. I had a very successful hernia surgery yesterday. While operating, the surgeon found a second hernia, which he repaired. That’s a two-for-one surgery.

Everyone at the hospital—and I mean everyone—was so pleasant and professional. I could feel the Holy Spirit moving in the hospital. Each person was moved by the Spirit. God works through His people to accomplish all things. I thank you for your prayers. Praise God.

May God bless you abundantly this day.

All Glory to God.

Jude’s Call: Stand Strong and Contend for the Faith

Text: The Book of Jude

The Problem — Confusion Is Growing

In the early church, Jude saw something dangerous happening. False teachers were slipping in, twisting Scripture, and telling believers that sin didn’t matter. Jude wanted to write about salvation, but God moved him to warn His people first.

Today, we face the same challenge. Social media influencers, “spiritual coaches,” and even some popular speakers teach messages that sound good but move people away from Jesus. Many claim that truth is relative to culture, but God’s Word remains unchanged. The world will disguise false gods and sins as the thing to do, but beware of the idols wrapped in spiritual-like clothing.

Jude writes,
“Contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” — Jude 3

Our Guide: The Word of God

God doesn’t leave His people confused or afraid. He gives us His Word as our foundation and His Spirit as our guide through His Word. But we must do our part and stand firm against the darkness of evil. Paul reminds us:

“Fight the good fight of faith.” — 1 Timothy 6:12
“All Scripture is God-breathed… so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped.” — 2 Timothy 3:16–17

To “contend” doesn’t mean to argue or attack. It means standing for truth the way a firefighter stands ready at his post—alert, steady, and prepared to act when danger comes.

The Plan — How Believers Stay Strong

A. Know the Real Thing

Jude warns believers about spiritual “counterfeits.” In verses 5–16, he provides examples such as Israel in the wilderness and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. They knew God’s truth but chose to ignore it. Be aware of the ease of going along with the world, for it is often a trap.

Today, false teachers may look polished online, speak smoothly, and sound inspiring. But Jesus warned:

“By their fruits you will know them.” — Matthew 7:20

A message that denies Jesus, excuses sin, or contradicts Scripture is not from God—no matter how good it sounds.

Think of counterfeit money. It looks real until the bank tests it. God’s Word is the test that exposes what is false.

B. Build Yourself Up

Jude gives four simple steps to stay strong when the world is confused:

  1. Build your faith — Study God’s Word daily. It is your foundation.
  2. Pray in the Holy Spirit — Ask God to guide your thoughts and give you strength.
  3. Keep yourself in God’s love — Walk in obedience. Stay close to Him.
  4. Show mercy to those who struggle — Help, don’t condemn. Paul says:
“Restore others with a spirit of gentleness.” — Galatians 6:1

Imagine a lighthouse standing tall while thick fog surrounds it. That’s what a faithful believer looks like—steady, shining, and guiding others to safety.

The Result — God Will Keep You Safe

After all the warnings, Jude ends with one of the most uplifting promises in the Bible. You don’t stand firm by your own strength—God holds you up.

“To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling…” — Jude 24

Paul adds,
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” — Philippians 1:6

Jesus said,
“No one can snatch them out of My hand.” — John 10:28

Think of a parent holding a small child’s hand. Even if the child stumbles, the parent won’t let go. That is how God holds you—firmly and lovingly. This message is the assurance we have in Jesus. Jesus said, “Abide in me and let my Words abide in you.” God’s Word is the key to receiving answers to your prayers.

Jude closes with praise, reminding us that God has all power, authority, and glory. And because of Him, we can walk through a confusing world with confidence and joy. God has given us all power, authority, and dominion over the evils of the world. Listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance in all you do, and He will guide you in all truth.

Questions to Ponder

1. What does it mean to “contend for the faith” without being quarrelsome?
It means standing firm for truth with courage and kindness—speaking what is right without pride or anger and showing Christlike love.

2. How can believers recognize false teachings today?
Test everything with Scripture. If a message twists grace, denies Jesus, or contradicts God’s Word, it is not from Him.

3. Why is spiritual growth important?
Growth gives you discernment. The more you know God’s Word and walk with Him, the easier it is to spot lies and stay faithful. Hosea said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Knowledge of God’s word is like the lighthouse on the shore, which guides and directs your every step.

4. What steps help us “keep ourselves in God’s love”?
Pray daily, read Scripture, obey God, and show mercy toward others. These habits keep your heart close to Him. Listen to the Holy Spirit; He will guide you in all things. And when you do, you will grow in the fruit of the Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and patience.

5. How does Jude’s closing promise encourage your walk with Christ?
It reminds us that God—not us—keeps us safe. His power protects us, and He will finish the work He started in our lives. And your smile will grow, and your life will fill with peace and joy.

A Final Word of Hope

No matter how confusing the world becomes, you are not alone. God has given you His Word, His Spirit, and His protection. Stand firm, shine brightly, and trust the One who holds you steady. He will keep you, strengthen you, and lead you all the way home—full of joy and full of His grace.

Look forward to your final home: Eternity with God.

PS. Share your newfound knowledge with you friends.

Reader,

Hosea said his people were destroyed for lack of knowledge. Knowledge give believers and non-believers a choice. When a person does not know, they cannot choose.
