What Does it Mean to Please the Holy Spirit?

Ask God: Paul tells us not to grieve the Holy Spirit. But, what does it mean to please the Holy Spirit. In Galatians, the sixth chapter, Paul tells us to please the Holy Spirit. In Acts, the 5th Chapter, Luke tells about Ananias and Sapphira who lied to the Apostles and to the Holy Spirit. The died because of their sin.

Good Evening Reader,

I hope you have had a very good week. Even with the distractions going on in the world, let us strive to remain focused on God and His blessings. May God bless you and keep you.

God Bless.

Living to Please the Holy Spirit: Never Grow Weary in Doing Good

Galatians 6:2-10

Many believers sincerely want to please God, yet they often struggle with knowing what that looks like in everyday life. The pressures of a self-centered world can make it easy to grow weary and to overlook the needs of others. Too often, we focus only on our personal concerns.

As a result, we miss the joy and purpose that come from living under the Holy Spirit's direction.

In Galatians 6:2-10, Paul describes the Holy Spirit as our faithful Guide. He shows us that a life pleasing to God is marked by carrying one another's burdens, faithfully doing good, and refusing to give up. Those who follow His leading will discover a life that produces an eternal harvest and brings glory to God.

Carry One Another's Burdens with Love

One of the clearest signs that we are living to please the Holy Spirit is our willingness to care for the needs of others. Paul wrote, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2).

The law of Christ is the law of love. Jesus demonstrated this throughout His ministry by helping the hurting and comforting the brokenhearted. He calls His followers to do the same.

Everyone carries burdens. Some struggle with grief after losing a loved one. Others face financial hardship, illness, loneliness, or family problems.

While we may not be able to remove every burden, we can help carry the load. A kind word, a sincere prayer, preparing a meal, offering transportation, or simply listening with compassion can make a difficult day more bearable. These acts of kindness become visible evidence of the Holy Spirit working through us.

Imagine trying to carry a heavy piece of furniture. By carrying it alone, you quickly become exhausted. When another person steps alongside and shares the weight, the task becomes much easier. That is the picture Paul gives believers.

God never intended us to walk through life's challenges alone. The Holy Spirit often meets people's needs through the loving actions of fellow believers.

This week, ask the Holy Spirit to show you someone who needs encouragement. Call a friend, visit a neighbor, pray with someone who is hurting, or offer practical help without expecting anything in return. As you carry another person's burden, you will discover the joy of pleasing the Holy Spirit and reflecting the love of Christ in a world that desperately needs His compassion.

Sow to the Holy Spirit Through Faithful Obedience

Every day, believers are planting seeds by the choices they make. Paul wrote, "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Galatians 6:8).

A farmer understands that the harvest always reflects the seed that was planted. Corn produces corn. Wheat produces wheat. In the same way, our actions today shape the spiritual harvest we experience tomorrow. When we obey the Holy Spirit, we sow seeds that produce righteousness, peace, joy, and eternal rewards.

The account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 provides a sobering example of what happens when people choose deception instead of obedience. They sold property and pretended to give the entire amount to the church while secretly keeping part for themselves.

Their sin was not keeping some of the money. Peter made it clear that the property belonged to them, and that they were free to give whatever they chose. Their sin was pretending to be more devoted than they really were. Peter asked, "Why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?" (Acts 5:3). Their desire for the praise of others led them to grieve the Holy Spirit instead of pleasing Him.

Consider a gardener who carefully plants healthy seeds, waters them faithfully, and patiently waits for them to grow. He does not expect fruit the next morning, but he knows that faithful care will eventually produce a harvest.

The Christian life works the same way. Every act of obedience, every honest word, every generous gift, every prayer, and every choice to honor God is a seed sown to the Spirit.

Examine your motives as well as your actions. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area where appearance has become more important than obedience. Choose honesty, humility, and faithfulness in both public and private. As you continually sow to the Spirit, your life will bear fruit that honors God and blesses others.

Persevere in Doing Good Until the Harvest Comes

One of the greatest challenges believers face is continuing to do good when we do not see immediate results. We pray, serve, give, encourage others, and remain faithful, yet sometimes it seems as though nothing is changing.

Paul understood this struggle, which is why he encouraged believers, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9). God's promise is clear. The harvest will come to those who remain faithful and do not give up.

The Holy Spirit helps believers persevere when circumstances tempt them to quit. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would guide, teach, and strengthen His followers (John 14:26).

When our strength is limited, the Spirit provides the endurance we need to continue obeying God. He reminds us that our labor is never wasted when it is done for the Lord.

Consider a farmer who plants seed in the spring. After planting, he does not immediately see a harvest. Weeks pass before any evidence of growth appears. Yet he continues watering, cultivating, and trusting the process because he knows the harvest is coming. If he quits halfway through the season, he will never enjoy the fruit of his labor.

The same principle applies to the Christian life. Noah faithfully built the ark for many years before the flood came. Joseph remained faithful through slavery and imprisonment before God elevated him to leadership. Their circumstances changed because they continued to trust and obey God.

If you are growing weary today, listen to the Holy Spirit and keep moving forward. Continue praying, serving, giving, and sharing God's love. Trust God's timing rather than your own. The Holy Spirit is leading you, and in His perfect season, you will reap a harvest that brings glory to God and encouragement to others.

Summary

Living to please the Holy Spirit is not complicated, but it does require daily obedience. The Holy Spirit calls believers to look beyond themselves and care for others by carrying burdens, showing compassion, and meeting practical needs. He also leads us to sow good seeds through honest, faithful living.

Every act of kindness, every prayer, every word of encouragement, and every step of obedience is an investment in God's kingdom. Although we may not see immediate results, God promises that a harvest will come in His perfect time.

The Christian life is a journey of trusting the Holy Spirit even when the path is difficult. He gives us the strength to keep going when we are tired and tempted to quit. As we follow His guidance, our lives become a testimony of God's love and grace.

Therefore, remain faithful, continue doing good, and trust the Lord with the results. The Holy Spirit is working in and through you, and your labor for Christ will never be in vain. Let His leadership guide every step of your life.

Reader,

Hosea said his people were destroyed for lack of knowledge. Knowledge give believers and non-believers a choice. When a person does not know, they cannot choose.
